Family Worship Sermon Schedule - 2009
Dear CCPC Family,
Listed below is an outline of the preaching schedule for family worship, which is the last Sunday of every month (except on special occasions). Please note the topics and the brief descriptions. The schedule is subject to change according to the discretion of the Interim Session. Any changes, however, will be communicated to the congregation in advance. We hope the schedule stirs an excitement for learning how we may grow as families that are centered on the gospel of Jesus Christ.

January – December 2009
Note 1: Family worship takes place at the end of each month (in addition to special times as set by the leadership).
Note 2: The topic may change according to the discretion of the Interim Session and particularly the senior pastor.

January 25
We will be continuing our series of “Spiritual Warfare.” On this particular Sunday we will cover the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit. Elder Greg Wilson will be preaching at all three services.
February 22
“Redeeming Households through the Gospel” An introduction to our series on developing healthy households for the Lord. In this message there will be a general call (especially to the men of the household) to pay attention to the health of the nuclear family. Healthy churches and healthy societies are impossible without healthy households. Here we will explore what the Bible teaches about the family.
March 29
“Redeeming Manhood: God’s Call to Men in the Family” A challenge to men, especially those who are married, to reclaim their calling to be the spiritual leaders of the family, both as husbands and fathers. Also a challenge for the older men to mentor the younger single men who are preparing for marriage.
April 26
“Redeeming Womanhood: God’s Call to Women in the Family” A challenge to women, especially those who are married, to reclaim their distinct calling within God’s design for marriage. Also a challenge for the older women to mentor the younger single women who are preparing for marriage.
May 31
“Redeeming Parenting: God’s Call to Parents in the Family” What are parents’ basic calling with respect to childrearing? How is this to be done? How does the concept of stewardship bring balance to our approach to parenting? What are some common idols that parents fall prey to?
June 28
“Redeeming Honor: God’s Call to Children in the Family” The Bible teaches us to honor our parents, but this calling becomes increasingly complex the older we get, especially once we get married. What does it mean, on the one hand, “to leave and cleave” to our spouse, and, on the other hand, to honor our parents? What are godly boundaries to set?
July 26
“Worship in the Home” (Family Worship) Christians seem to know intuitively that family worship is important and necessary. Yet the number of families that engage is family worship is abysmally low. What exactly is family worship? What positive effects does it have on the family? What happens when family worship is neglected? Here also some comments will be made on what the family ought to do on the Lord’s Day.

“Communication in the Home” Spouses often feel misunderstood, children no longer communicate with their parents, parents are not confident that they can say anything meaningful to their children. Why is communication so often a challenge? What does the Bible have to say about communication in the home?
September 27
“Forgiveness in the Home” Those closest to us are also the ones who have oftentimes hurt us the most. Many families struggle with past hurts that surface implicitly and explicitly in the future, eventually spilling over into the next generation. What is the role of forgiveness for healthy households? How can it be achieved?
October 25
“Finances in the Home” Money is an issue that has broken apart countless marriages. Why is it that money poses such an obstacle for happy homes? What does the Bible teach us generally about how we ought to relate to money? How should these principles be applied specifically to households? What should parents do to teach their children about money from an early age?

“Fun in the Home” Time together simply playing and laughing is an integral part of forming healthy relationships. Here we will explore the function of leisure in the household. Why are regular family outings and vacation important? What are some common obstacles to family fellowship?

Future Topics

“Prayer in the Home”
Prayer, in particular, is a special responsibility of family members to one another. Parents especially bear the responsibility of interceding regularly for their children. What is the power of praying as a family? What are some practical ways a family can learn to pray regularly together?

“Generational Sins” What are “generational sins”? Why is it important to know your spouse’s background? How has his/her past influenced the way relationships are conducted and decisions are made? How can we be agents of healing and redemption with respect to generational sins?
